When he isn’t fishing with his family, Steve’s helping travel nurses catch their next big travel assignment. We sat down with Steve to learn more about why he does what he loves. [![Steve](https://email.trustedtalent.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Steve-300x300.png)](https://email.trustedtalent.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Steve-1.png) ## **What interested you into becoming a travel nurse recruiter?** Throughout my life I have watched family members face tough health situations and there was always a nurse that helped them recover. Igained a lot of respect for the nursing profession and it inspired me to get involved in healthcare. I knew that the best way for me to help others in need is by supporting nurses in their search for work. ## **What’s the most rewarding part of your job?** When a nurse calls to tell me that she/he had a breakthrough with a patient. Seeing a nurse find a way to help a patient’s health improve makes it all worthwhile! ## **How do you enjoy this hot summer weather?** I love to fish. In August my family and I are going on our annual fishing trip on Lake Ontario. There are lots of smallmouth bass to catch. I can’t wait! ## **Any fun stories from past trips?** Haha well, yes. A few years ago as I went to cast my line into the water, I somehow lost grip of the rod. Plunk! Right into Lake Ontario it went! The rod sank immediately. Luckily I brought another one on the trip. ## **In your opinion, what makes a great travel nurse?** From my experience, the best travel nurses are very organized and have upbeat attitudes. They come into a new assignment focused on being the best nurse that they can be. ## **What’s your one tip for travel nurses?** Enjoy your work. Although it can get hectic, you get to interact with many people and impact lives everyday. Travel nursing is one of the most thrilling and rewarding jobs in the world. ## **Who is a superstar nurse that you work with?** Chelle Madigan, an in-home Patient Care Manager. She and I have been working together for about three years. No matter the situation she’s thrown into, Chelle always keeps her head above water. She is bright spirited, positive, and cheerful. A real pleasure to work with! ## **If you were a travel nurse, in which city would you want to work?** San Diego, CA. I’ve never visited, but I’ve heard amazing stories about it. It would be nice to lay on the beach after a long workday. Or maybe catch some fish on my time off. I’ll be sure to hold onto the rod this time!
